This week's rec is a little more cheesecake pin-up (although certainly nothing by normal comic book art-standards) than I'd normally rec, but it has great lines and a really awesome gun.
Today's fanart rec fits the theme of 'sometimes ridiculously over-powered people want to blow things up in a terrifying fashion'. It's a pretty great theme, I think. :D
Today's a set of Midnight and Apollo fanart recs that may fulfill your daily dose of normalcy and bad-ass action. First up, superhero action! Next up, hanging out as civilians.
I love the contrast between the two images, in terms of how we can see these characters.
These two bits of fanart are some of my absolute favorites because they combine two great things: space + The Authority!
Apollo looks like a Greek god, and the Engineer looks like she is in the middle of being badass and amazing in SPACE. She looks like she's having a moment of absolute tranquility in the middle of conditions that could kill her, but that doesn't matter because she's too awesome to be bothered by things like lack of oxygen.
SERIOUSLY. SPACE IS COOL. THAT IS PRETTY MUCH THE ENTIRE POINT OF THIS POST.
I guess this week's theme is powerful people that fly and are awesome! I love the very geometric style on Swift, and how the artist appears to have captured a moment in time between the beat of her wings. For Apollo, I like how he seems peaceful, even though he's gathering up energy. Also, I really love vejita4ever's version of his usual outfit.
Here's two bits of fanart that I like for their super-saturated color and film noir feel. I'm especially a fan of the lighting on Jenny in the glow from her energy. Gorgeous, gorgeous color-work.
Jenny and the Engineer shamelessly abuse the Carrier's door-powers in this very cute comic. The embed option's text isn't readable, but you can go to the original at DeviantArt in order to expand to see the full text. :)
One gorgeous illustration of the Midnighter and Apollo at their wedding (I like these outfits so much better than their canon wedding clothes!) and one lovely Art Nouveau-inspired illustration of the Engineer.
Survivor's Sojourn by Indigo Excerpt: "When he awoke the morning of the 31st, just before the last adventure, the last problem, the last crisis of the year arose -- he knew.
Jenny Sparks' number was up."
Notes: A slice of introspection by the Doctor about the death of Jenny Sparks.
So, in a chat with nanila about our shared love for The Authority, she mentioned that she had a The Authority picspam. So I went and looked, and BASKED IN THE GLORY OF THE AUTHORITY ACTION FIGURES.
