Title: "The Authority" Charity Art Auction Piece
Artist: Vejiicakes
Rating: G
Characters : Jenny Sparks, Apollo, Midnighter, The Engineer, Swift, Jack Hawksmoor, The Doctor
Description: It’s been ages since I’ve revisited The Authority! I participated in a Charity Art Auction, in which 100+ alumni produced art of their favorite superheroes to bid on. Apollo and Midnighter remain my main guys, but it seemed like a raw deal to stop there so I did the whole classic team: Jenny Sparks, Apollo, Midnighter, The Engineer, Swift, Jack Hawksmoor, and The Doctor will always hold a special place in my heart :)

The Authority #29
Written by TOM TAYLOR
Art by AL BARRIONUEVO
Cover by JHEREMY RAAPACK & RICHARD FRIEND

There has been tragedy and triumph, despair and hope. For the past year, the rag-tag team thrown together under the banner of The Authority - accompanied by thousands of human refugees - has been off in deepest space, hoping to solve the mystery of The Carrier and perhaps bring home a cure for their shattered Earth. Now, after facing numerous unspeakable horrors, their long odyssey draws to its shattering, epic conclusion. The survivors are heading home - but what secret are they bringing with them?

So... there's a new Doctor in the house. Once again, my guess was way off. Waaaaaaay off.

The band's back together now and The Authority's final story will be in WildCATS #30, released later this month.

The Authority #28
Written by TOM TAYLOR; Art by AL BARRIONUEVO;
Cover by TIM SEELEY & ALLEN MARTINEZ

Trapped by bloodthirsty aliens in a distant galaxy with billions of lives on the line, The Authority face impossible odds. Sarah Rainmaker will astonish, The Engineer will kick butt, Grifter will probably blow something up, Jack Hawksmoor will have to make a terrible decision, and Flint will put her fist through some squishy bits!

Yay for Engineer and Flint kicking arse! Really looking forward to this issue.

The Authority #27
Written by TOM TAYLOR
Art by AL BARRIONUEVO
Cover by DAVE GIBBONS & KEVIN NOWLAN

One hundred thousand refugees scream inside the Carrier and are gone. Hawksmoor, Flint and Grifter disappear with them - taken by a species of brutal, nightmarish creatures. River's growing powers as the Spirit of Information hid only a handful of Authority members. As they set out on an impossible rescue, a terrible history is uncovered and the mystery of Swift deepens.

The third last The Authority issue ever. Kinda cool Swift is getting some action, she's been rather left-of-focus for... years. Hope Angie gets some cool "STFU I'm the boss now" scenes.

I don't think there's anything wrong with resting an idea. Let someone bring back The Authority in ten years, when there's something new worth saying about the subgenre and it takes a company-owned asset to say it with. Honestly, when *all* the superhero comics are about ripping people's bits off and rubbing dead cats over themselves while pretending to be on heroin, The Authority as originally executed really doesn't bring the different any more, does it?

That said: the WildStorm Universe stuff was as robust a set of company-owned assets as you can find in the field, and ceasing publication and integrating them into DCU (if that's what's going to happen) makes less sense than taking the leash off WildStorm 's intelligent and hungry editorial department, kicking some funding loose and letting them do the necessary surgery to get those assets earning money again.
